About the deck thickness: There are a few new things going on with our deck. What’s not new is the 1/2″ Baltic birch plywood we use. While we use a thinner plywood, we utilize mechanical engineering to better optimize the cornhole board for weight, global stiffness, and local stiffness. If we just used a 1″ plank of wood, the board will be very heavy. But if we using 1/2″ and we move the material away from the center like an I-beam. In doing so, we gain a lot of structural efficiency. Mark Pryor, who has a masters degree in mechanical engineering, designed these new boards with stiffness in mind.
The original Elite boards were good, but there was feedback regarding bounce. We took it to heart and made measurable improvements. For the outer edge of the deck top, the thickness there is 1″ (actually 24mm). There are four full length continuous ribs that are bonded and in many places and fastened to adjacent plywood parts. This creates four full length beams running through the length of the board to maximize stiffness. Tying everything together is a partial back sheet (Quad-Grid Backplate) that completes the I-beam and boosts the global stiffness of the board. You’ll find some smaller cross braces in key areas such as right below the hole that address the local stiffness improvements in areas of concern with our previous Elite model.

The wait was worth it. ( 28 days from order to arrival ) These boards craftsmanship is perfect. Many small details in the assembly of the boards. I questioned the pictured online boards where I could see staples . The final assembly is glued with the staples only holding the wood for initial alignment . The finish and fit is perfect . The I beam design does what it supposed to. The bag has a satisfying thunk when it lands , no hollow sound or bounce. The 1/2” top board is reinforced with additional glued wood edge which creates a thicker outer edge landing surface. I use the Viper RS bag and it slides perfectly. The level bulbs are a nice addition to validate the Elite board for competition of the highest level. Can’t say enough about this boards craftsmanship and ground breaking design . They stay put and do not slide anywhere ! The Elite II is AMAZING!
